Citizen Journalism
Citizen journalism basically refers to private individuals reporting information and news. With the advent of new media the journalism power has been decentralized to individual level and that makes notable difference in desemination of information in the society. Every individual can create media and reach it to furthest corner of the world but at the end users are the one who experiences the difference. So citizen journalism is one of the emerging threat in the young democratic society like Bhutan as it creates political illusion, online risk and imparts mystifying information to the society.
Today the illusionary texts about the political issues has become the alarming threat in the society. The politics are being demoralized by creating fake news and information about them. For instance, during the recent election on our country, the two members of parliament playing mobile phone during the first press meeting of Druk Nymrup Tshogpa was covered by BBS but later in Bhutan messager page people has posted saying that indeed they were playing phone during off time. Thus, this clearly shows indicates that the citizen journalism is surely going to create misunderstanding between politicians and the people which hampers the democratic situation of the country.
Citizen journalism is one of the imperative cause of online risk. Posting unauthorized and riotous information in the social media becomes unsafe when the concern personal delves about the particular post. Moreover the victimized person of the violent messages can even confront the issue to the police station and hence, adds problem to the particular citizen journalist. So such issues therefore threatens the sovergnity of a country thus, weakening the internal stability of a nation.
The accumulation of citizen journalism power by individual imparts lot of confusing information that misleads the society. People creates fake news and information for fun but it becomes viral in the society and at the end it is the poor media illiterate people who gets decieved easily and lands up doing wrong things. Miscommunication amongst the people in the society due to citizen journalism is a major agent that results in creation of unhealthy rumors and misconduct.
So, to conclude Bhutan being a young democratic country citizen journalism has become a major threat to the internal sovergnity of a nation. Journalist at a individual level creates lot of invalid information about the politics to defame them and such issues weakens the democratic situation of a country. Not only that importantly online risk is deteriorating the living standard of a people especially the media illiterate people. Moreover Citizen journalism creates miscommunication amongst the society through mystifying information thus, creating major threat to the infant democratic situation of a country.
